Goniatite fossils are ancient marine cephalopods that lived from the Middle Devonian (about 390 million years ago) until the end-Permian extinction (~251 Ma), known for their spiral, chambered shells with distinctive "goniatitic" zigzag structures. They used gas-filled chambers and a siphuncle to control buoyancy, and likely swam freely like early ammonites and modern nautiluses. Goniatites are valuable index fossils in stratigraphy and are found worldwide in Paleozoic limestone and shale, particularly in tropical inland sea deposits.
Metaphysically, goniatite fossils are believed to support grounding and deep insight anchoring one in ancient wisdom and helping connect to ones ancestral lineage. They are said to stimulate structure and purpose, revealing life patterns through their spiral design while fostering mental clarity and guidance during periods of transformation or regression.
